CONFESSION Okay, I’ve taken my hair for granted…I guess I thought it would always be there and now that it’s been gone for some time now I really really miss it.
In high school my hair was at mid black length (MBL). I remember getting so annoyed every time someone would ask if it was my real hair….why did it seem impossible for a black girl to have long hair that was actually real? Most of the women in my family had a great length of hair, so it was nothing interesting to me.
I started experimenting with my hair more and more…rinses turned into bleaching, trims turned into cuts. After a while I started wearing tracks to get the length back.
One day while at my sister’s hair salon, I decided to do the unthinkable…I made a drastic change and cut my hair to neck length (NL). Everyone was shocked, they all knew my hair was my crown and glory, but I was ready for a change.
It’s been over a year later and I haven’t had haircut since April. I decided try to grow my hair back to MBL. Trying to achieve that goal though, is not so easy. I have recently chosen to give up bleaching, blow dryer and my Chi flat iron and just simply set my hair…less heat and less chemicals = more healthy hair and = healthy hair will hopefully lead to hair growth. I replaced my oils/moisturizers with coconut oil. So I have been sporting the “Rihanna Curly Do”. Wasn’t too crazy about it at first, but it’s growing on me.
So I’m going to try this for six months straight and see how it goes. Of course I know it will take longer for MBL but, if I don’t see any good results, I will have to switch it up. I have my fingers crossed.
If you have a hair regime that’s working for you, I’d love to hear about it.

Hello and thank you for sharing.I too cut off my long hair some years back and it had since grown back. My regime consisted of only product for kids. The shampos, conditioners, perms and hair lotions. No heating, weaves, hair glue or flat irons. I oiled it at night and wrapped it. I wore the same dew for a week to reduce the stress of combing it everyday. I love my long hairm, especially when I out on a date. I love how it blows in the wind and the compliments I get.Although your hair looks great on you. Remember, hair don't make the woman, the woman makes the hair.
Thank you for sharing your hair regime. I love my short do, but I find it more difficult to manage and there's so much more I could do to it when it's longer. I'm going to try some of your tips out. Thanks again!
OMG, girl! I did the same thing last year. I just wanna cry now. My hair has grown out a lot from that stupid Rihanna cut (gosh it was cute, though!), but I miss my wavy ponytail.
