Since 8th grade I’ve had the same nighttime ritual with wrapping my hair at night. Although it’s not the most glamorous look at night, at least by wrapping it, my hair is always on point when I’m out and about during the day…well, that is until I recently noticed a BIG difference in my hair.
One morning when I was combing my hair out, I noticed I didn’t have as much hair in my bangs as normal. At first I thought it may be the way I was parting my hair, but after further examination, I noticed my right side was thinner than the left. I was horrified! I mean, I’ve dealt with almost every hair nightmare you could think of, breakage, glued hair, burnt hair, over processed hair, you name it, all fixable, but, to actually be missing hair, is extremely scary.
I’ve heard so much about hair loss due to hair wrapping, so I decided to research it and in fact I learned that combing the hair around the head causes breakage to the edges and ends. I knew instantly that was my issue.
So, what’s a girl to do???? If I don’t wrap it at night my hair will suffer damage from my pillowcases…damned if I do, damned if I don’t. I have tried wrapping it the other way, and because my hair is used to it being wrapped the same way for 15 years, my head was so sore from it going the opposite direction. Maybe I just need to toughen it out or buy satin/silk pillowcases. The price of beauty, I tell you!
Since we’re on the subject of hair, thought I’d let you beauties know that I’m starting a hair journal, documenting the process of growing my hair back to mid back length (MBL). So I’ll keep you posted!

Ok great, so it's not just me! I don't know why all of the sudden my hair (right side as well) is not liking the wrapping anymore. I guess I will also have to just pin curl and break down and buy that silk/satin pillow case.
Nooooo, it's not just you! Since I posted this, I've received messages and tweets from other women who are going through the same issue. Pin curls is a great option. I'm trying to wrap it the opposite way again. I'm not sure how long that will last. People have been recommending bonnets and silk/satin pillowcases. I'm not sure if I can do the bonnet, but I am definitely going to try the pillowcases.
