NEW Beauty Tip Video On Using Dental Picks For Lashes

I LOVE a dramatic look, without  too much fuss, so I always apply mascara on both my upper and lower lashes.  Sometimes it can get a little messy, depending on the size of the mascara wand.  If it’s too big, chances are, the mascara will usually end up under my eye.  Some beauty experts suggest using a business card or credit card, when applying mascara to avoid that problem, but I’ve found a better solution using dental picks.

Check out the video below to see how it works:

Dentek Dental Picks have a bristled end that help with applying mascara, separating lashes and getting ride of clumps.  You can find these at your local drugstore, but I purchased a pack of 100 at the Dollar Store.

So what do you think?  Do you apply mascara on your lower lashes?  Would you use dental picks?

Smashbox Studio Pop Eye Palette Review

This weekend, I purchased Smashbox’s Studio Pop Eye Palette.  With 16 of Smashbox’s bestselling Photo Op Eye Shadows and 4 eye luxe cream liners for only $39 I thought it was a bargain!

Check out my review:

I decided to play in the purples (Orchid, Amethyst and Royal) and do a smokey eye…

So what do you think of the colors?

Reach New Lengths With Spider Lashes

Happy Halloween loves!  As you all know, I LOVE lashes! I’ve always wanted to try the retro “Spider Lashes” look,  that Kim Kardashian always rocks.  I know many aren’t a fan of clumpy and extended lashes, but I think it’s perfect for a dramatic look.  So during Tropical Storm Sandy, I had nothing, but time on my hands, so I decided to get creative.

For the top lash line I glued a strip of faux lashes and I also applied individual lashes to the lower lash line.  I have never been able to master the art of applying individual lashes and have never applied faux lashes to my lower lash line, but with a little patience, tweezers and magnifying mirror, I got it done.  I didn’t use any mascara for the look.

Here’s what I got:

If you want to try this look yourself, but don’t  want to use faux lashes, you can use a lengthening mascara with a large wand. Start from your lash base and wiggle the wand upwards, coating every lash.  You can even use both faux lashes and mascara to make it pop more.

Of course, spider lashes isn’t your everyday look, but something different to rock when you want to bring on the drama and even perfect for Halloween.

So, what do you think?  Is this a look you’re willing to try?

Effortless Poolside Glam :: Pool Makeup Tips

Hey Beauties!  I know it’s been a minute since my last post, I’ve been a little wrapped up with another project that I’m working on (can’t wait to tell you about it!) and I just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, so I’m just settling in. Anyway, while in Vegas, I attended one of their much talked about day parties, and was inspired to do a post on poolside makeup tips.

Whether you’re poolside in DC, Miami, Vegas, LA or even in your own back yard, simplicity and waterproof makeup are key to giving good face by the water.

1.  Sunscreen mixed with Foundation – For flawless skin with sun protection, a tinted moisterizer with SPF is your BFF.  My fav is Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF

2.  Waterproof Mascara - Remember simplicity and waterproof is key, so skip the eye shadow and eyeliner and just go straight to to the mascara.

3.  Bronzer – Get a sunkissed glow without all the shimmer, for a flawless finish.

4.  Pressed Powder – Keep your t-zone in check and shine proof with a compact pressed powder

5. Lip Color – Avoid the greasy or glossy look and stick with a matte or stained color that won’t easily rub off.  You all know coral is my color for summer.  Try a nice bright color to liven things up.

6.  Nail Polish – A quick and easy way to accessorize your look, is by dressing up your fingers and toes with a nail polish.  Try summer trends like seafoam, burnt topaz and or bright tangerine.

7.  Accessorize – Whether it’s, sunglasses, a hat, earrings or bracelets, adding accessories can turn a simple look, into something fun.  I for one, LOVE wearing hats.

Do you wear makeup to the pool/beach?? What makeup item(s) and/or accessories are a must-have for the beach/pool?

Summer Beauty Essentials :: My Top Six Favs

It’s officially summer time and around this time, I always receive a lot of questions asking about the perfect makeup for the hot and humid season of summer.  I know a lot of you, like myself, don’t want to be bothered by makeup, when it’s hot and sticky outside, yet, we still want to look our best.  For this season, I strongly believe, less is more.

Here’s my list of summer beauty essentials:

1. REMEMBER, protecting yourself from the sun is vital for healthy skin.  Neutrogena’s  Wet Skin Sunblock Spray is perfect for the pool, beach and humid climates.  No white residue, sweat proof, water proof, oil-free and PABA-free.  Just spray it on, rub it in and go!

2.  Waterproof mascara!! Never go to the beach and/or pool without it!

3.  Who wants to feel caked up when its 80+ degrees out?? If you’re looking for good coverage, but want something light weight, try Smashbox’s Cream Ready BB Cream SPF 35.  It’s a 5 in 1 (concealer, primer, foundation, tinted moisturizer & sunscreen), that provides good coverage, and yet doesn’t look or feel heavy.

4.  Natural looking waves are in around this time of year and if you read my previous post, than you know Shea Moisture’s Organic Coconut & Hisbiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo and Organic Coconut & Hisbiscus Curl & Hold Smoothie are great products to use for the beach wave look.

5.  Get the sun-kiss look and keep it simple with bronzer. A little bronzer can go a long way!

6.  While keeping it simple, you can always turn things up a notch with a vibrant lip color.  Coral, is color of choice for summer.  With coral, you can keep it chill with a pink tone or liven things up with an orange shade….there’s a hue for every woman.

If you a product or a list  of beauty essentials for the summer, I’d love to hear about them.  Tell us about them!

This Week’s Beauty Quote :: This Time Baby, I’ll Be Waterproof

“Men are like mascara, they run at the slightest display of emotion.” – Kabir Bedi

It might be a breakup, a difficult boss, or just an all out bad day, but every woman has a breaking point.  As Kelly Cutrone said it, “If you have to cry, go outside”.  Yet, when the tears are inevitable, to avoid making the situation any messier, waterproof mascara is your BFF.  Simply, let it out, let it go and keep that beautiful face intact.

Here are some suggestions for waterproof mascara

Let us know know about your favorite waterproof mascara.

Fun with Color Blocking :: Hair, Makeup & Nails

Color blocking has crossed over from the fashion scene to the beauty scene.  What was once popularized on the runway, color blocking has now become mainstream in hair and makeup trends.

For those who aren’t familiar with the trend, color blocking is basically matching two or more shades, which creates a vibrant pop.

Pairing together bright eyeliners, lipsticks, blushes and/or eye shadows is a fun, easy and inexpensive way to join in on the trend.

If you’re feeling extra bold, try color blocking your hair.

If you aren’t that adventurous, you can always keep it simple by color blocking your nails.

I tried it myself, with green eyeliner, hot pink lipstick and neon green nails.

So are you feeling adventurous too?  Would color blocking be a trend you would try?
