Effortless Poolside Glam :: Pool Makeup Tips

Hey Beauties!  I know it’s been a minute since my last post, I’ve been a little wrapped up with another project that I’m working on (can’t wait to tell you about it!) and I just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, so I’m just settling in. Anyway, while in Vegas, I attended one of their much talked about day parties, and was inspired to do a post on poolside makeup tips.

Whether you’re poolside in DC, Miami, Vegas, LA or even in your own back yard, simplicity and waterproof makeup are key to giving good face by the water.

1.  Sunscreen mixed with Foundation – For flawless skin with sun protection, a tinted moisterizer with SPF is your BFF.  My fav is Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF

2.  Waterproof Mascara - Remember simplicity and waterproof is key, so skip the eye shadow and eyeliner and just go straight to to the mascara.

3.  Bronzer – Get a sunkissed glow without all the shimmer, for a flawless finish.

4.  Pressed Powder – Keep your t-zone in check and shine proof with a compact pressed powder

5. Lip Color – Avoid the greasy or glossy look and stick with a matte or stained color that won’t easily rub off.  You all know coral is my color for summer.  Try a nice bright color to liven things up.

6.  Nail Polish – A quick and easy way to accessorize your look, is by dressing up your fingers and toes with a nail polish.  Try summer trends like seafoam, burnt topaz and or bright tangerine.

7.  Accessorize – Whether it’s, sunglasses, a hat, earrings or bracelets, adding accessories can turn a simple look, into something fun.  I for one, LOVE wearing hats.

Summer Beauty Essentials :: My Top Six Favs

It’s officially summer time and around this time, I always receive a lot of questions asking about the perfect makeup for the hot and humid season of summer.  I know a lot of you, like myself, don’t want to be bothered by makeup, when it’s hot and sticky outside, yet, we still want to look our best.  For this season, I strongly believe, less is more.

Here’s my list of summer beauty essentials:

1. REMEMBER, protecting yourself from the sun is vital for healthy skin.  Neutrogena’s  Wet Skin Sunblock Spray is perfect for the pool, beach and humid climates.  No white residue, sweat proof, water proof, oil-free and PABA-free.  Just spray it on, rub it in and go!

2.  Waterproof mascara!! Never go to the beach and/or pool without it!

3.  Who wants to feel caked up when its 80+ degrees out?? If you’re looking for good coverage, but want something light weight, try Smashbox’s Cream Ready BB Cream SPF 35.  It’s a 5 in 1 (concealer, primer, foundation, tinted moisturizer & sunscreen), that provides good coverage, and yet doesn’t look or feel heavy.

4.  Natural looking waves are in around this time of year and if you read my previous post, than you know Shea Moisture’s Organic Coconut & Hisbiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo and Organic Coconut & Hisbiscus Curl & Hold Smoothie are great products to use for the beach wave look.

5.  Get the sun-kiss look and keep it simple with bronzer. A little bronzer can go a long way!

6.  While keeping it simple, you can always turn things up a notch with a vibrant lip color.  Coral, is color of choice for summer.  With coral, you can keep it chill with a pink tone or liven things up with an orange shade….there’s a hue for every woman.

If you a product or a list  of beauty essentials for the summer, I’d love to hear about them.  Tell us about them!

Color of the Year :: Tangerine Beauty Trends

Move over seafoam green (Read: Fast Foward: Color Trend for Spring 2012), there’s a new color everyone’s obsessing about this spring season — tangerine orange.   This zesty and bright color has been named the hue of the year, by magazines like InStyle and Cosmopolitan. Just take a look through any of your favorite beauty and/or fashion magazines, I guarantee you’ll see a ton of ads featuring tangerine.  Take a look at how you can add this beautiful color in your beauty routine:

I’ve rocked the look myself  using:

NYX Powder Blush in Cinnamon ($6)

OPI in Atomatic Orange ($8)

So, what do you think about this trend?  Will you be sporting tangerine this spring?

Feature Friday :: CiCi Couture Cosmetics & Giveaway

Nearly a month ago, I was introduced to freelance makeup artist and entrepreneur, Ciara Richbow.  Ciara recently created her own lip gloss line, CiCi Couture Cosmetics and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few shades.

I have a favorite shade for whatever mood I’m in – True Love, a pinkish beige color, works for my chill days, when I don’t want to make a fuss about makeup ; Surge, a coral color is when I’m feeling lively and vibrant ; Sassy, a scarlet/reddish orange color, is pretty much self-explanatory and Naked, is a nude shade, perfect for when I’m bringing the drama with my eyes.

True Love, Surge, Sassy & Naked

Not only do I LOVE the colors, I love the fact that they’re non-drying and long-lasting.You can check out the rest of line here

Is Your Lipstick Safe?

According to the latest study by the FDA, 400 lipsticks were found to have traces of lead.  Cosmetic giants, such as, Maybelline, CoverGirl and L’Oreal were ranked amongst the top 10 with lead content.

Officials said the findings aren’t a safety concern.  “We do not consider the lead levels we found in the lipsticks to be a safety concern,” the FDA said in its online comments. “The lead levels we found are within the limits recommended by other public health authorities for lead in cosmetics.”

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics thinks otherwise. “They’ve spent the past five years looking at what are the levels of lead in lipstick, but they haven’t done any kind of health impact study to look at what are the exposures women are getting from lipstick,” according to Stacy Malkan, of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.  “Lead builds in the body over time, and lead-containing lipstick applied several times a day, every day, can add up to significant exposure levels,” Mark Mitchell, co-chairman of the Environmental Health Task Force for the National Medical Association, said in the group’s statement.

I do know about you, but this kind of creeps me out.  Usually if I like the color of the lipstick, along with the added benefits (hydration and long wear) I’m getting it, but I guess I have to be more mindful.  What are your thoughts?  Should the FDA do more?

Holiday Beauty Inspiration

It’s the Holiday Season, get inspired!

Under the Mistletoe :: Kiss Proof Lipstick

It’s the holiday season, so whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas and/or Kwanzaa we all  know, this is usually the time in which we spend with the ones we love.   I’m sure, being the fabulous lady you are, you and your sweetie have been invited to a ton of holiday parties. So in the midst of joyful music, spiked egg nog, and ugly Christmas sweaters, don’t forget to slip away and pucker up under the mistletoe!

Here are some helpful tips to keep your lipstick kiss proof:

Exfoliate your lips!  Gently massage use a damp washcloth or soft toothbrush over your lips.  This helps get rid of dry skin.

Use lip liner as a base for your lipstick.

You can also apply lip liner after your lipstick to create a waxy barrier.

Blot your lips with your fingers.  This presses the color into you lips and creates a stain that will last.

Apply a little powder or blush on top of your lipstick will help it last longer.

It’s the holiday season, so don’t be afraid to go bold! Go red!

Try L’Oreal’s Infallible Le Rouge Lip Colour. Long lasting and doesn’t dry our lips out. Swear by it!
