Effortless Poolside Glam :: Pool Makeup Tips

Hey Beauties!  I know it’s been a minute since my last post, I’ve been a little wrapped up with another project that I’m working on (can’t wait to tell you about it!) and I just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, so I’m just settling in. Anyway, while in Vegas, I attended one of their much talked about day parties, and was inspired to do a post on poolside makeup tips.

Whether you’re poolside in DC, Miami, Vegas, LA or even in your own back yard, simplicity and waterproof makeup are key to giving good face by the water.

1.  Sunscreen mixed with Foundation – For flawless skin with sun protection, a tinted moisterizer with SPF is your BFF.  My fav is Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF

2.  Waterproof Mascara - Remember simplicity and waterproof is key, so skip the eye shadow and eyeliner and just go straight to to the mascara.

3.  Bronzer – Get a sunkissed glow without all the shimmer, for a flawless finish.

4.  Pressed Powder – Keep your t-zone in check and shine proof with a compact pressed powder

5. Lip Color – Avoid the greasy or glossy look and stick with a matte or stained color that won’t easily rub off.  You all know coral is my color for summer.  Try a nice bright color to liven things up.

6.  Nail Polish – A quick and easy way to accessorize your look, is by dressing up your fingers and toes with a nail polish.  Try summer trends like seafoam, burnt topaz and or bright tangerine.

7.  Accessorize – Whether it’s, sunglasses, a hat, earrings or bracelets, adding accessories can turn a simple look, into something fun.  I for one, LOVE wearing hats.

Do you wear makeup to the pool/beach?? What makeup item(s) and/or accessories are a must-have for the beach/pool?

Color of the Year :: Tangerine Beauty Trends

Move over seafoam green (Read: Fast Foward: Color Trend for Spring 2012), there’s a new color everyone’s obsessing about this spring season — tangerine orange.   This zesty and bright color has been named the hue of the year, by magazines like InStyle and Cosmopolitan. Just take a look through any of your favorite beauty and/or fashion magazines, I guarantee you’ll see a ton of ads featuring tangerine.  Take a look at how you can add this beautiful color in your beauty routine:

LIPS

CHEEKS

NAILS

I’ve rocked the look myself  using:

NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick ($6)

NYX Powder Blush in Cinnamon ($6)

OPI in Atomatic Orange ($8)

So, what do you think about this trend?  Will you be sporting tangerine this spring?

Fun with Color Blocking :: Hair, Makeup & Nails

Color blocking has crossed over from the fashion scene to the beauty scene.  What was once popularized on the runway, color blocking has now become mainstream in hair and makeup trends.

For those who aren’t familiar with the trend, color blocking is basically matching two or more shades, which creates a vibrant pop.

Pairing together bright eyeliners, lipsticks, blushes and/or eye shadows is a fun, easy and inexpensive way to join in on the trend.

If you’re feeling extra bold, try color blocking your hair.

If you aren’t that adventurous, you can always keep it simple by color blocking your nails.

I tried it myself, with green eyeliner, hot pink lipstick and neon green nails.

So are you feeling adventurous too?  Would color blocking be a trend you would try?

OPI Helps You Try on This Color

I’m so behind the times…I just found out about OPI’s “Try on This Color” feature.  I was reading I’m Am Such a Girl’s post on summer looks and I fell in love with OPI’s Hot & Spicy.  So immediately I went searching for the color and I came across the “Try on This Color” link.

Try on This Color allows you try over 200 OPI Nail Lacquers with your customized skin tone and nail length – how cool is that???

Think about how many times you’ve purchased an amazing polish, just to find out it that it didn’t compliment with your skin tone or it wasn’t the shade that it appeared in the bottle.  This saves a lot of time and not to mention, mulah!

The “Try on This Color” feature groups polishes by shades and collections, so it makes it easy when you’re looking for a specific polish.

I tried it myself, and here are the shades I’m loving this summer

* My Chichua Bites!
* Go on Greent!
* Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It
* A Man-darin Hard to Find
* Chapel of Love

Try it yourself at OPI.com and let me know favorite summer colors.
