20s Are For Enjoyment :: Tips for 20 Somethings

“Enjoy yourself. That’s what your 20s are for. Your 30s are to learn the lessons and your 40s are to pay for the drinks.” - Carrie Bradshaw

This past Friday, I celebrated my 10 year high school reunion.  I know, I couldn’t believe it myself.  A whole decade has gone by since I walked across the stage in my gold cap and gown, to accept my diploma.  It’s crazy how fast time flies.

It was great catching with old faces and seeing  how beautifully everyone transformed.  I started to reflect on my own transformation…in high school, I stuck with the same beauty routine, and that simply consisted of Neutrogena Acne Cleanser, brown lip liner and lip gloss -completely different than today’s routine.  Today, not only do I have to protect my skin against acne, but also, from sun damage & AGING!!!

So, I decided to dedicated today’s post on skincare tips for 20′s something.

Sun Protection – I admit, when I was younger, protecting my skin against the sun was not a priority, but as I became more interested in beauty and skincare, I became aware that protecting my skin against the sun was a essential in my skincare regimen.  UV rays promote free radical damage and cause the breakdown of collagen. This makes the skin lose its defences and its ability to renew itself in a healthy pattern. The collagen synthesis slows down and this leads to premature lines, wrinkles, furrows, freckles, pigmentation and even skin cancer.  So remember to rock an SPF 15 or higher.

Beauty in What you EatWe have all heard the saying, “You are what you eat”, but how many of us actually live by that saying? I for one can admit that I don’t. I have bad eating habits, and I have always had issues with my skin. Of course eating pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner isn’t the total blame of my oily skin and occasional breakouts, genetics does play its part, but my eating habits don’t necessarily help.  Certain deficiencies in the diet can lead to various skin ailments, hair loss, brittle nails, lack lustre skin, acne, melasma as well as premature aging.

Skincare Regimen – Let’s face it, we don’t have the same babyface we did when we were 16.  Cleansing with a facial wash, simply isn’t enough, more steps are needed – (1) Cleanse, (2) Tone,  (3) Exfoliate and (4) Moisturize. Keeping your skin squeaky clean is step one and most essential step. Using an astringent/toner helps to remove excess oil and dirt left over after cleansing.  Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells which promotes collagen production and helps with the fresh glow. Keeping your skin hydrated is always important, no matter the skin type.

I can’t wait to see what 30 something has to bring!
