Although I am a fan of many high end cosmetic products, I’m no snob, there still a lot of drugstore products that can do the trick, sometimes, even better. I’ve been on the quest for a new foundation and concealer, but didn’t want to send an arm and leg, so I did some research on reviews of drugstore products and headed to my local drugstore, CVS. I went with the intent of only buying a new concealer and foundation, but of course ended up leaving with more.
Here’s what I picked up:
Neutrogena’s Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser ($7.99) – I have been trying out the oil cleansing method for about a month now and decided I needed a change. I’ve tried this cleanser before and loved the way my skin felt, so I decided to purchase it. No harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes, phthalates. So it’s gentle, and with the salicylic acid, it’s very effective for someone like myself who suffers from mild acne.
Monistat’s Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel – I know this may sound a bit odd, but it’s actually a great makeup primer (check out my review from 3 years ago). It contains dimethicone, which is the primary ingredient in high-end primers and it was only $8! It spreads like butter and has a silky finish.
Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer ($6.99) – I researched reviews on a drugstore undereye concealer and saw a lot of good reviews on this product. I’ve only used it for a day, but I can say that it went on smoothly and evenly and provided good coverage. I wanted a highlight effect so the shade I purchased was “Medium 25″, which is a few shades lighter than my complexion.
Revlon’s Colorstay Foundation for Normal/Oily Skin ($13.49) – I some great reviews on this foundation as far as finish, coverage and length in wear. I tried it this morning, it was an easy application, lightweight but great coverage. They said it stays for 24 hours, I won’t be wearing it that long, but hopefully it does a good 9 hours. One thing I will mention is that it has a matte finish, so if you experience dryness, you might want to mix a little with your moisturizer.
Aveeno’s Active Naturals Ultra-Calming Makeup Removing Wipes ($7.99) – I LOVE these wipes! No dryness, no icky residue and removes of my makeup.
I used all of these products last night and this morning. Take a look:

Real Friends Don’t Let Friends Leave Out Busted…or Do They?
Looking at pictures of Foxy Brown performing with Nicki Minaj at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC earlier this week, I was left with a bunch of questions. First, let me begin by saying, I was happy to see Foxy and Nicki come together without all the usual drama, and yes, I am a fan of them both, especially Foxy. I still remember seeing her for the first time in the “Ain’t No” video with Jay-Z and thinking how beautiful she was, and recording her songs on the radio, and listening to them over and over again, to memorize the lyrics…she was BAD!
But back to the questions….what did Foxy have on? Why? And most importantly, where were her friends? Now, this post purpose isn’t to bash Foxy Brown, because we’ve all had our moments, but, as my father has always told me, your real friends tell you the truth. Where were her friends to tell her that she was stuck in a time warp?
Ultimately, this all got me to thinking about the bigger question, “would you tell a friend if she looked bad”? Is it a friend’s place to tell you that your hairstyle or your outfit is unflattering? And, how would you feel, being told that your lipstick shade is horrid?
My mom and sister will be the FIRST to tell me that my foundation is too orange or that they dislike my new hairstyle, and as much as I hate to hear it, I do value their opinions. Maybe, it might be different coming from someone else.
How do you feel? Are you honest with your friends about their looks, or do you sugarcoat your opinions in the name of friendship?
