Aging Gracefully :: Older Women Becoming the “It Girls” of Brands

“I didn’t want to let women down. One of the stereotypes I see breaking is the idea of aging and older women not being beautiful.” - Annie Leibovitz

This morning, I was watching favorite new program, The Today Show and I was intrigued by a story they featured about 50, 60, 70, and even 80 and 90-year-old women, becoming the the cover girls of cosmetic brands and fashion magazines.

In a world where so much emphasis is placed on looking and staying young, I can’t tell you how awesome it feels to have women featured for being themselves, crows feet and all.

As a woman in my late 20′s, I can so relate to the pressures of staying young. Everyday, I notice the changes in skin and I’m constantly bombarded with ads and commercials on how to prevent aging…talk about pressure!  Yet, when I see women celebrated for aging gracefully and the scary images of women in Hollywood, post nip and tuck, I’m reminded that maybe aging isn’t too bad after all.

What are you thoughts?  Do you think we place too much emphasis on staying young?  Would you like to see older women in ads?

Fast Forward :: Seafoam Green Color Trend for Spring 2012

Winter has just started, but as you know, the world of beauty and fashion is forever evolving.  So as you prepared for the New Year, here’s an upcoming color trend to get ready for in Spring 2012.

Ripped straight from the runway, from Oscar de la Renta to Vera Wang,  seafoam green has been deemed the color for 2012, and not just in apparel or shoes, but, also in makeup.  Seafoam green is a beautiful, cool and refreshing color that can liven up just about anything. Take a look for yourself:

1. OPI in “Mermaid Tears”

2. China Gaze in “Refresh Mint”

3. Julep in “Miranda”

4. Essie in “Mint Candy Apple”

5. MAC Cosmetics in “Mischievous Mint”

1. Nars “Cleo Duo”

2. NYX “Seafoam”

3. MAC Cosmetics “Aquavert”

I tried the seafoam trend with Tarte’s Spring Greening Reusable Straw Palette.  I mixed the teal and golden lime colors and here’s what I got:

This color makes me so anxious for Spring 2012!  What do you think of seafoam green?  Would you rock it?

MAC’S Power Brow || My Confession

After my brow scare post I received a lot of feedback from other glam girls who have experienced the same nightmare at the nail salon. Although I swore off brow waxes at nail salons, I have a confession…I got my brows done at a nail salon again…I know, I know I said I’d never get my brows done at a nail salon anymore, but this was a different salon, I was already there getting my nails done…and besides being a beauty addict consist of taking make risks.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the results. It wasn’t the thin hard brows, I usually get at nail salons.

If you’re in the Baltimore area and looking for a great place to get your brows done, check out Lovely Nails 327 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore – (410) 752-1065. The interior isn’t the grandest, but they do an excellent job.

By, the way, check out my “zebra” nails.

Speaking of brows, MAC Cosmetics has a new tutorial on achieving the “Power Brow”. Thought it would be helpful. Check it out!

Plum Lips :: A Trip to the Dark Side

I must admit, I’m not a big fan of dark lipstick…I have full lips so the darkest I usually go is red, and even that’s a bit too much for me at times, but in being a Beauty Addict you have to be willing to try new things, so I did. As stated in an earlier post on Fall Trends, plum colors are in this season, so I dropped back MAC Cosmetics this weekend and decided to try the dark lips out. I purchased lip liner in “Currant” and lipstick in “Hipster”.

Here is the result….

What do you think? It’s still growing on me.

Here are some pointers for choosing the right shade of plum lipstick.

- If you have golden, olive, or darker skin tones, choose a blue-based plum lipstick and for fair skins tones, stick to pinky purples.

- Remember to line your lips FIRST!

- Use a lip brush to apply the lipstick so it’s evenly distributed.

If you’re going to take a trip to the dark side also, I’d love to see! Send me your pics to post.
