Effortless Poolside Glam :: Pool Makeup Tips

Hey Beauties!  I know it’s been a minute since my last post, I’ve been a little wrapped up with another project that I’m working on (can’t wait to tell you about it!) and I just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, so I’m just settling in. Anyway, while in Vegas, I attended one of their much talked about day parties, and was inspired to do a post on poolside makeup tips.

Whether you’re poolside in DC, Miami, Vegas, LA or even in your own back yard, simplicity and waterproof makeup are key to giving good face by the water.

1.  Sunscreen mixed with Foundation – For flawless skin with sun protection, a tinted moisterizer with SPF is your BFF.  My fav is Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF

2.  Waterproof Mascara - Remember simplicity and waterproof is key, so skip the eye shadow and eyeliner and just go straight to to the mascara.

3.  Bronzer – Get a sunkissed glow without all the shimmer, for a flawless finish.

4.  Pressed Powder – Keep your t-zone in check and shine proof with a compact pressed powder

5. Lip Color – Avoid the greasy or glossy look and stick with a matte or stained color that won’t easily rub off.  You all know coral is my color for summer.  Try a nice bright color to liven things up.

6.  Nail Polish – A quick and easy way to accessorize your look, is by dressing up your fingers and toes with a nail polish.  Try summer trends like seafoam, burnt topaz and or bright tangerine.

7.  Accessorize – Whether it’s, sunglasses, a hat, earrings or bracelets, adding accessories can turn a simple look, into something fun.  I for one, LOVE wearing hats.

Do you wear makeup to the pool/beach?? What makeup item(s) and/or accessories are a must-have for the beach/pool?

Beauty Junkies Stay Organized

As you all should know, I am a beauty product/tool junkie!  Seriously, I have products everywhere!   In my bathroom, I have a cabinet filled with beauty tools (flat iron, curling irons, blow dryers, combs, clips, etc.) and products (shampoos, conditioners, styling products), and I also have a cart holding my everyday stuff (more shampoos, conditioners, styling products and makeup).  I have a big case of makeup, that I keep in my living room, and in my closet I have a self for more things that I don’t use as much.  So, as you can see, organization is essential for me.

I came across article in the latest issue of InStyle Magazine “Vanity Sanity” on how to keep your beauty essentials organized, so I thought I would share some ideas with you.

1. Containers – Use containers or jars to hold your cotton balls, q-tips, and/or sponges.  The colorful stackable containers in photo 1 are from Zak Designs.  I purchased inexpensive glass jars from Ikea.

2.  Wall Mount or ShelvesThe Vitra Uten Silo Wall Organizer is the perfect organizer for your beauty products and tools. It can hold a lot of items, without taking up much space, but it’s pretty pricey…$425, to be exact. An alternative would be to purchase inexpensive shelves and mount them on your wall.

3.  Labels - Keep your products organized by labeling them by the date of purchase. This helps you remember what products to trash when they expire.  These label package from Beauty Alert come with 20 labels in four categories:  3, 6, 12 & 18+.

4.  Luxury Deluxe Wood Cosmetics Box w/Mirror by Lori GreinerAvoid the cosmetics crush with this deluxe wood makeup box with built-in mirror. Spacious and separated into four different levels with swing-out doors and magnetic closures, it offers ample room for 30 lipsticks and numerous other cosmetics, like blushes, shadows, pencils, mascara, foundations, nail polishes, and more. From Lori Greiner.  Available at www.QVC.com for only $69.12

5.  Brush Holder - Keep your brushes organized, simply by using a glass, metal or plastic container or cup.

6.  Cosmetic Vanity Organizer - This organizer is perfect for your everyday essentials.  Available at www.touchofclass.com

Make a Statement this Spring & Go Orange!

I come across a lot of women who wear minimal to no make-up, who actually want to take a step in the bold side, but don’t have the time for anything drastic.  Believe it or not, all it takes is one color, be it, blush, eyeshadow or lipstick to make a bold statement and with the season of Spring in full effect, vibrant colors are in, especially orange and coral hues.
I know, a color as bright as orange can be a little scary, but it’s all about choosing the right shade.  With the color orange, you can go from a highly pigmented poppy lip nail polish to sheer and lightly sparkled coral blush, orange and coral beauty products are everywhere. Bobbi Brown has a coral collection, Cabana Coral that includes numerous variations of the hue, from earthy to ultra-feminine sheer with a pink cast. Make Up Forever’s orange lip gloss and lipstick are an extreme take on the trend but can be softened with a softer shade.  Nars has a bright orange powder blush that creates a soft and shear look with a healthy glow.
Orange is definetly making a splash this season in the fashion world. If you look through your favorite fashion or beauty magazines, I’d be surprise if there’s an ad without a model rocking the fresh color.  In Prada’s Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaign tthey feature models rocking electric orange on their lips…her lips are saying “Spring Baby, I’m here!”
The key to rocking orange is selecting the right shade for you complexion, because as you know, all colors don’t compliment everyone.  You might want to start by using an orange or coral blush first.  The colors will bring out blue yes and compliment olive and tan tones.  Wearing corals on your lips will help brighten your skin, but you want to make sure if you’re wearing gloss, that the gloss is sheer.

RECAP :: NY Fashion Week Mixer :: Fresh & Fearless

I attended the New York Fashion Week Media Mixer “FRESH & FEARLESS” Hosted by , Lianne Farbes of http://www.TheMakeupGirl.net and Paul Baranda of http://www.BeyondBeautyBasics.com and Secret Deodorant at the at the ION Studio NYC in SoHo. Sponsors included: Tarte Cosmetics, Ted Gibson Beauty, Lierac Skincare, Phyto Haircare, Suave Beauty, La Roche-Posay , PH8 , Vichy Skincare, Stila Cosmetics, Zeno, Gillette Venus, Zoya Nail Polish & Treatments.

The event was a great opportunity for beauty and fashion bloggers to come and network with other bloggers and people in the industry. I arrived to the mixer around 9 so unfortuantely I missed the raffle, but needless to say, it was a great turnout.

Here are some photos from the event:

Secret – “strong enough for a man but ph balanced for a woman”

This is an awesome product I just learned of at the mixer, the Zeno Hot Spot Blemish Clearing Device. The device uses heat to destroy the bacteria that causes pimples. Reduces 90% of blemishes within 24 hours! And get this, it’s only $39.99!! I was really in need of this because I had a huge pimple of my forehead that would not go away. http://myzeno.com/

The day after…
Here I am with the faraway look going on, probably from a little fatigue.

Enjoyed my time at the NYFW Media Mixer and I’ll looking forward to the next event in Fall…next time more pics and hopefully I’ll get an interview or two in.

Beauty at the Beach

The hot weather of summer is shortly around the corner, not to mention, Beach & Bike Week only a few days away. Are you ready to strut your gorgeousness at the beach? Well, here are some helpful tips and ideas, to help you do just that!

First and most importantly, is your swimwear and you can’t mention, swimwear, without mentioning Hervé Léger. Léger stole the fashion scene with his infamous bandage dresses, and now he’s doing the same with his Spring 09’ swimsuits. At $500+ I wouldn’t even want to get in the water with one of these suits on.Check Out Hervé Léger’s Spring Collection

If you want to enhance your summer glow, you might want to use some of these flattering hues:

Translucent pastels lend a fresh and natural glow.
MAC eye shadow in Of Summer, $15

Sheer, icy pink gloss flatters every complexion.
Yes to Carrots lip gloss in Flirty Pink, $6

Go for a more vibrant blush than you’d normally wear.
Convertible Color in Fuchsia, $25

Juicy tangerine ripens lips.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss Stick in Orange Poppy, $19

A punchy coral polish gives feet the illusion of a tan.

OPI nail polish in One the Same Paige, $9

Swap your everyday brown liner for a reflective bronze.
L’Oreal Paris HIP eyeliner in Gold Kohl, $13.

The only dreadful thing I can think of about summer time and the beach is maintaining your hair. With the humid weather and beach water, your hair can become your worse enemy. Here are some easy maintenance tips for carefree summer hair:

Load up on conditioner – Use a moisturizing shampoo like Herbal Essences Hydralicious Self-Targeting $4, which uses liquid crystal polymers to deliver added moisture to damaged hair.

Wear a low ponytail – Slick back unruly hair with a pomade and gather it at the nape into a ponytail.

Rumpled Waves

Have fun at the beach! Oh, and don’t forget about the sunscreen!
