OPI Helps You Try on This Color

I’m so behind the times…I just found out about OPI’s “Try on This Color” feature.  I was reading I’m Am Such a Girl’s post on summer looks and I fell in love with OPI’s Hot & Spicy.  So immediately I went searching for the color and I came across the “Try on This Color” link.

Try on This Color allows you try over 200 OPI Nail Lacquers with your customized skin tone and nail length – how cool is that???

Think about how many times you’ve purchased an amazing polish, just to find out it that it didn’t compliment with your skin tone or it wasn’t the shade that it appeared in the bottle.  This saves a lot of time and not to mention, mulah!

The “Try on This Color” feature groups polishes by shades and collections, so it makes it easy when you’re looking for a specific polish.

I tried it myself, and here are the shades I’m loving this summer

* My Chichua Bites!
* Go on Greent!
* Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It
* A Man-darin Hard to Find
* Chapel of Love

Try it yourself at and let me know favorite summer colors.

The Breakup Makeover :: Erase, Replace, Embrace, New Face

So the big news over the blogosphere has been the news about Jennifer Lopez and her hubby, Marc Anthony’s entrance into “Splitsville”.  I must admit, I was caught completely off guard, after hearing about it myself.  After her numerous public breakups and divorces, I really thought that JLo had it right this time, but evidently, I was mistaken.

I truly hate hearing about couples breaking up, because let’s face it, breaking up sucks! The whole process of grieving and getting over can be overbearing.  I remember I was always told to burn sage to drive out negative energy, after a breakup and now in the era of divorce parties, breaking up can actually be celebrated as starting a new chapter. So rather than sob your heart out and over-indulge in boxes of chocolate, give yourself a breakup makeover!

You’ve been crying your heart out and soaking your pillow every night and now, you’ve been greeted with red, puffy eyes.

The Remedy:  Apply cucumber slices or cold tea bags to your eyes.  The coolness reduces circulation, but the tea actually has a slightly astringent (tissue-shrinking) effect as well.

High Impact Lashes Set – $34
What it does:
Go for bold with High Impact Mascara, which kicks up the volume of each and every lash for an eye-opening effect. All About Eyes Serum de-puffs and helps minimize fine lines while tugless Take The Day Off Makeup Remover takes it all off gently at the end of the day.

This set contains:
- 0.28 oz High Impact Mascara in Black
- 1 oz Take the Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips
- 0.17 oz All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage
- pink zippered cosmetic bag

Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask
What it is:
A brightening at-home eye treatment.

What it is formulated to do:
Like an energy drink for your eyes, Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask is ‘eye-deal’ for those who want to fake a full eight hours sleep. With three forms of glow-inducing oxygenating ingredients, antioxidant vitamin C, and puff-pummeling cucumber extract, it will brighten, de-puff, and hydrate eyes in 15 minutes flat.

What else you need to know:
The innovative single treatment packaging has twin-chambers. One chamber holds the two freeze-dried marine collagen eye masks (meaning all minerals are locked into the masks without added preservatives in their most active states). The other compartment contains proprietary activating fluid. The packaging is sealed to be air tight—meaning the pads and liquid activator are in their purest form until the customer activates the masks and peels back the packaging. It contains four dual treatment masks good for one month’s supply.

The stress of the breakup is starting to show on your face. Your skin is starting to lack-luster, so it’s time to get rid of the dead-weight skin.

The Remedy: Make your own exfoliating facial scrub with brown sugar, honey and lemon juice. The brown sugar moisturizes and rejuvenates skin as it gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells; Honey kills germs, clean pores and reduces swelling and inflammation. Lemon helps clear clogged pores, reduces the size of pores and prevents and cures blackheads.

Clean Scene™ Gaga for Glow™ Gentle Facial Scrub – $20

What it is:
A gentle scrub that gets rid of dull, dead skin for a super smooth complexion.

What it is formulated to do:
Dismiss Dullness! This exfoliating essential deep-cleans to minimize the appearance of pores as it frees skin of excess oil, leaving a healthy glow. Get scrubbing three times a week for seriously silky results.

Sugar Face Polish - $55
What it is:
A nourishing, exfoliating mask that refines and brightens the skin, instantly revealing a radiant complexion.

What it is formulated to do:
This innovative formula is enriched with revitalizing brown sugar and antioxidant-rich wild strawberries, which work together to gently dissolve dead skin cells and reveal perfectly nourished skin. It also includes hydrating seed oils that leave the skin soft and supple. An invigorating aroma from a natural blend of citrus oils further enhances the experience of using Sugar Face Polish. The formula is recommended for all skin types and will not sting or cause redness.

You’ve been moping around and neglected your lips.  I’m sure, the last thing on your mind is puckering up to someone, but you never know when that heartbreaker may come crawling back and besides, you can’t let one monkey stop the show!

Fabulips ($74 Value)

What it is:
A routine to leave your lips full, healthy, and beautiful.

What it is formulated to do:
It’s a facial for your lips! Designed to recreate Bliss Spa’s popular and unique fabulips treatment, this pout-perfecting kit cleans, exfoliates, plumps, and softens lips.

This set contains:
- 0.24 oz Fabulips Foaming Lip Cleanser
- 0.12 oz Fabulips Softening Lip Balm
- 0.5 oz Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub
- 0.06 oz Fabulips Instant Lip Plumper 4.50

Team Carter :: Have a ♥, Fix a ♥

I usually cover topics related to the world of beauty and glamour, but today I wanted to post something that is near and dear to my heart.  This weekend, I will be participating in the 2nd Annual Congenital Heart Walk.  This walk means a lot to me, because in December 2010, my 8 month old nephew, Carter unexpectedly passed away from a congenital heart defect called coronary arteries anomalies.  1 in 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect every year.  It is the leading cause of infant mortality.

By participating in this walk, I’m not only remembering Carter, but I  hope to raise awareness of this disease and also funds for vital research.   Funds raised support the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living with congenital heart defects (CHD).

This is my first time participating in a walk and I’m hearing it will be in the low 80′s on Sunday, so I’m definitely making sure I’m prepared — sunscreen, water bottle, comfortable sneaks and light t-shirt.

Cool, Warm or Neutral :: What’s Your Undertone?

As you all know, earlier this week, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and chat it up with the DC area’s Top Female Bloggers on SUPERGORGE Radio. Check out the pics and stream During a break, I had discussed foundation and undertones with some of the ladies.  I thought this would be a great topic to discuss on here, because just like so many other woman, before I did my research, I couldn’t even tell you my own undertones. By knowing the undertones of your skin, you’re able to correctly pick makeup.

A while back I remember looking at a L’Oreal display for its True Match Foundation.  The display had the foundations divided into three categories, cool, warm and neutral.  I keep thinking “how am I suppose to know, which category I fall under”. I was so confused. If you’re currently in the same boat, here’s what you need to know about undertones, to help you pick the right colors and look fabulous!

There are three distinct categories for undertones: cool, warm and neutral.

Cool undertones are a combination of reds and blues – A pale, rosy-pink, rosy-beige, dark olive, dark brown or ebony cast to skin generally indicates cool tones.  Ladies with cool tones usually have blue, green, gray, or black-brown eyes.

If you have cool undertones, colors like pinks, roses, fuchsias, grapes and cherries compliment you well.

Warm undertones are a combination of yellow and reds – A peach, ivory, golden brown, beige, coppery, or deep golden brown cast to skin generally indicates warm tones. Glam girls with warm tones usually have hazel, brown or amber colored eyes.

Beiges, browns, bronzes, golds, mochas, taupes and spices are perfect with warm tones.

Neutral undertones is a blend of both cool and warm – Most women fall under this category

Mauves, berries, plums, corals, reds, brownish reds, and tawnies are great shades for neutral tones.

If you’re still unsure about your undertone, here are several ways you can find out:

  • If you tan easily, chances are you have a warm tone.  If you’re unable to tan,
  • Hold a piece of white paper under your hand.  Look carefully at your skin.  If you see a yellowish cast, you have warm undertones, and if you see a bluish cast, you have cool tones.

Prevent Makeup Meltdown with Urban Decay’s Setting Spray

Every women has been dying for that secret potion that helps their makeup last all day (at least 8 hours or more).  Caking on a little extra makeup or taking many trips to the ladies room for reapplication and blotting seems to be the only alternative…well, until now.

Urban Decay Cosmetics has launched three hypoallergenic setting sprays for different skin types, which helps your face say on for 16 hours and only for $29.

All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Spray is perfect for the party girls and ladies always on the go.  All Nighter has temperature control technology which keeps your makeup from melting down when it’s warm and humid, or dehydrating when its cold and windy.

Dew Me Moisturizing Makeup Setting Spray works for those with dry and/or combination skin.  This weightless makeup setting mist keeps foundation from settling into fine lines and prevents powder from becoming cakey. It also helps your complexion looks dewy, younger and more glowing.

De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray is great for those like me, who have oily skin.  De-Slick uses innovative oil control that both absorbs excess sebum and controls surface shine. The problem-solving formula mists on, feels weightless, and sets makeup so it lasts ALL DAY. Its light dispersing particles deflect shine and deliver a matte look for up to 16 hours.
I’m trying out De-Slick — I can’t tell you how many times I have to blot my face in a day, so I’m hoping it does exactly what it claims. So far so good though. I’ll keep you all posted and will review it next week.  You can purchase any of the sprays at Sephora, ULTA, Macy’s and Urban Decay.

UV Rays Ain’t Nothing to Play With

The Mid-Atlantic has been hit with a record breaking heat wave, hitting records in the triple digits from Baltimore to Boston.  The sweltering heat has caused a scattering of power outages, transportation delays, park closings and not to mention, health concerns.  All of which, has left people like myself, trying to make the best of these sizzling days of summer.  Aside from pool parties, AC, and an abundance of 7-11 Slurpees, sun protection has been one of my top priorities.
Believe it or not, the leading cause of aging is sun exposure.  Sun exposure causes 80% of visible skin aging, such as crows feet, wrinkles, loss of firmness, age spots, uneven color or texture, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, and a rough leathery look.  Most of us get half our lifetime exposure to sun before we’ve reached voting age. The reason we don’t notice it, is that much of the damage to our skin will only appear decades later.
Sun exposure not only increases the signs of aging, but it also increases your chances of developing skin cancer.  Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer.
There is no way to hide from the sun, not unless you stay inside your house 24/7, but realistically, we all have to get out for work, school, errands, etc. so sun protection is essential – - WEAR SUNSCREEN OR SUNBLOCK!!!!!!
Here are some important info about sunscreen from the Skin Cancer Foundation:
Sunscreens are chemical agents that help prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. Two types of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB, damage the skin and increase your risk of skin cancer.
UVB is the chief culprit behind sunburn, while UVA rays, which penetrate the skin more deeply, are associated with wrinkling, leathering, sagging, and other effects of photoaging. They also exacerbate the carcinogenic effects of UVB rays, and increasingly are being seen as a cause of skin cancer on their own. Sunscreens vary in their ability to protect against UVA and UVB.
Most sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher do an excellent job of protecting against UVB. SPF — or Sun Protection Factor — is a measure of a sunscreen’s ability to prevent UVB from damaging the skin. Here’s how it works: If it takes 20 minutes for your unprotected skin to start turning red, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer — about five hours.
Many after-shave lotions and moisturizers have a sunscreen (usually SPF 15 or greater) already in them, and this is sufficient for everyday activities with a few minutes here and there in the sun. However, if you work outside or spend a lot of time outdoors, you need stronger, water-resistant, beachwear-type sunscreen that holds together on your skin. The “water resistant” and “very water resistant” types are also good for hot days or while playing sports, because they’re less likely to drip into your eyes. However, these sunscreens may not be as good for everyday wear. They are stickier, don’t go as well with makeup, and need to be reapplied every two hours.
Although some believe that sunblock and sunscreen are both the same, they are not. Although they have similar properties and are both important in caring of the skin, sunblock is opaque and is stronger than sunscreen since it is able to block a majority of the UVA/UVB rays and radiation from the sun, thus not having to be reapplied several times a day. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are two of the important ingredients in sunblock.
Sunscreen is more transparent once applied to the skin and also has the ability to protect against UVA/UVB rays as well, although the sunscreen’s ingredients have the ability to break down at a faster rate once exposed to sunlight, and some of the radiation is able to penetrate to the skin. In order for sunscreen to be more effective you’ll have to consistently reapply and use a higher spf.
I’m currently using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock which ROCKS!!
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with helioplex broad spectrum UVA UVB is fast absorbing leaves skin soft and smooth waterproof. Number one dermatologist recommended suncare. Neutrogena ultra sheer sunblock is a breakthrough in skin protection. Chic Prints :: Minx Nails at Sephora

Everybody who’s anybody has heard of Minx nails, well that is of course if you haven’t been living under a rock for the past year or so.  The decorative adhesive film made famous by celebrities like Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga has become the latest craze in nail trends. Minx nails initially was only available at salons that performed the services has now become more accessible since its debut at Sephora last week.

Chic Prints is the spin off of Minx nails from Sephora and nail giant, O.P.I. Chic Prints come in eight designs: anchor, stars, checkers, tiger, fishnet, chrome lace, black & gold geometric, or skulls and each pack contains 16 nail patches that can be applied to fingers or toes.

Application is pretty easy; you simply warm the sheets in your hands, apply the adhesive to your fingers and/or toes, trim and file to fit your nails, soon you’ll have a fresh and funky manicure in minutes and at $15 you can’t beat the price compared to the $40+ that the salons charge for the Minx service.
