Review :: Croc 2 Infrared Flat Irons

I was looking for new flat irons and came across Croc Infrared Flat Irons.  I immediately looked them up on Folicia to check out the reviews.  Folicia actually had the Croc 2 Infrared Flat Irons listed on their Top Picks for thick, coarse and/or curly hair below the shoulder and it had great reviews from consumers.

Here’s the run down:

The Croc 2 Infra-red 1Inch Flat Iron is internationally patented to combine ceramic, tourmaline, titanium and infrared technology. It reconditions and reconstructs your hair while maintaining health and providing powerful styling. Faster heat penetration makes styling quicker which keeps your hair healthier.  With a 450F maximum heat setting, this iron is perfect for giving or maintaining keratin treatments. But remember, if you are turning up the temp, make sure to use a heat protectant!

Features
Infrared Benefits:

Balances moisture

Prevents hair damage and dandruff

Stimulates hair growth

Protects color treated hair

Removes bacteria and odor

Keeps hair healthy by sealing moisture and adding silky shine

Technology:

“Dual Plate” technology maintains even heat across the plates at all times

Infra-red heat is highly efficient, fast acting, non-toxic and non-allergic

Fastest heat-up and recovery processes

Digital temperature control offers 25 heat settings from 280F – 450F in increments of 10F

Perfect for keratin treated hair

Seals in moisture, adds silkiness and shine, and maintains style all day60% faster and more effective straightening or styling than the average flat iron

Industry’s first environmentally friendly “Green Digital Display”Automatic shut-off

I just colored my hair, so maintaining its moisture, along with taming my thick hair, were SUPER important to me.  At a costly $160, I was a little worried that they might not work as good as my Amika’s, but luckily, I have a 30% off coupon and ULTA has a great return policy, so I purchased it.

The first time I used it, I didn’t use the infrared feature (I actually didn’t know how to turn that feature on).  I went up to 420 to test them out.  My hair felt very silky and didn’t have that burnt hair smell, which was a plus.  I used them again on my mom, who has fine hair.  I actually figured out how to use the infrared feature with her (push the power button twice).  I noticed a difference when I used the infrared on a strand of her hair, it felt more soft and silky.  Usually, she would get on me about spending $160 on some flat irons, but she was pretty satisfied with the product and results.

So here’s what I think:

Love the digital temperature control

Love that it heats up super fast

Love that automatic cut off

Love that my hair gets straight with a single pass

Love that I didn’t have deal with the burnt hair smell

Here’s what I recommend:

Get a warranty! Majority of the negative comments came from a defect on the iron after constant use over a couple of months/years.

Use a heat protectate product.

If your hair is color treated, relaxed and/or not in good condition, don’t crank up the heat.

Review :: KORRES Pomegranate Regimen Kit

About two weeks ago, my skin had gone haywire! If you’ve been following my blog for some time, you’ll know, that’s pretty typical (READ:  Face Going HAM, Connect the Dots, PMS Sugar Cravings & Acne) from time to time.  I’ve tried acne products from Dr. Brandt to Dr. Murad , and as beauty enthusiast, I’m always interested in trying something new.  I came across KORRES Pomegranate Regimen Kit at ULTA .  The $39.50 kit included:

  • Pomegranate Moisturizing Cream-Gel 20ml
  • Pomegranate Cleansing Mask 20ml
  • Pomegranate Cleansing Scrub 20ml
  • White Tea Facial Fluid Gel Cleanser 20ml
  • Evening Primrose Eye Cream 10ml

I’ve used Korres products before (READ: Korres Quercetin & Oak Anti-Aging PrimerI Don’t Love Dem Holes, Holiday Glam Look #1 : The Glow Look) and I’ve been very satisfied with them, so I didn’t hesitate to give their Pomegranate Regimen Kit a try.

Here are the claims:

Power of Pomegranate

The Korres Pomegranate Regimen Kit is essential for anyone with combination or oily skin. This refreshing, perfecting collection will keep oil under control all day. Put your best complexion forward with the power of pomegranate.

  • A skin balancing kit enriched with pomegranate

Here’s my outtake:

PROS:

Cleanser – I love it! It doesn’t strip my skin from it’s natural moisture.

Moisturizing Cream-Gel  - Very light

Mask – My skin felt very soft after using it

Scrub – Skin felt soft and hydrated after use

Eye cream – I have to admit, I was consistent with using it, but the cream was light.

CONS:

I just wished the kit came in a bigger package, but at $39.50, you can’t beat it.

Overall, my skin has looked and felt amazing, compared to two weeks ago.  I think next time, I’ll buy the full size products.

KORRES Pomegranate Regimen Kit is available at ULTA.

Review :: Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35

I’ve been hearing all the fuss about bb creams and decided to try it out to see if it really lives up to its hype.  BB cream, which stands for Blemish Balm Cream, was initially used by dermatologist whose patients underwent laser surgery.  The cream helped to protect, soothe and regenerate their highly sensitive skin, while providing great coverage for post-laser scars and redness.  Shortly after, Korean cosmetics companies caught onto the popular cream and it eventually made it’s way into Western markets.

The benefits of bb creams include:

  • Produces a  natural, “no makeup” look
  • Provides good coverage like foundation, but not as thick, and it doesn’t clog the pores
  • Works pretty much like a tinted moisturizer
  • Conceals all types of pigmentation, discoloration, acne and other blemishes
  • Has healing properties that soften, smooth and refine skin
  • Encourages skin regeneration to create and maintain youthful skin
  • Contains UV Protection for healthy skin (SPF levels differ for each brand/product)
  • Anti-wrinkle and skin-lightening benefits (available for some variants)

Brands from Garnier to Smashbox are in on the bb cream craze and depending on the brand you choose, you could have an all in one product (moisturizer, concealer, foundation and sunblock).

I tried Smashbox’s Cream Ready BB Cream SPF 35 in medium (1 oz. $39).

Here are the claims:

What it is:
A five-in-one set secret for achieving flawless skin on camera and beyond.

What it does:
This multitasking tinted cream formula with SPF 35 moisturizes, primes, perfects, controls oil, and protects for flawless skin on set and beyond. Formulated with emollients and optical pearl pigments, this BB Cream gives skin a glowing, ethereal look and provides a hydrating veil for the complexion to maintain moisture on the surface of the skin. With its ultra-smoothing finish, it instantly re-texturizes to create a smooth canvas. Especially when worn under foundation, it enhances the wear of makeup for up to eight hours. Ideal even for oily complexions, this expert formula with UVA/UVB protection helps inhibit oil to prevent the complexion from getting shiny throughout the day without the typical chalky matte finish.

What else you need to know:
Smashbox first heard about Asia’s hottest beauty craze in the photo studios from makeup artists, who had just been on location, and found it was the best tool to perfect skin on set without all the typical layers of product such as moisturizer, primer, concealer, and foundation, which can irritate sensitive skin. This unique formula creates “progressive” coverage, which means you can achieve different levels of coverage depending on how you wear it. Appropriate for all skin types, this product is free of fragrance, dermatologist tested, and non-acnegenic.

So here’s my outtake:

PROS:

Long lasting – Usually by the end of the day my makeup basically disappears, but as the the claim stated “enhances the wear of makeup for up to eight hours”. It actually lasted longer.

Non-Oily – Usually I would have to blot my face several times, throughout the day, but once or twice is

Lightweight – You don’t get that caked-up/heavy look or feeling

Goes on smooth – Easy application because it spreads like butter

Good coverage – You could actually wear this without foundation, depending on the type of coverage you’re looking for

Sunscreen

CONS:

Pricey – At $39 it is a little costly compared to Garnier’s $12 bb cream

Color selection – With only 5 color selections, they don’t offer that many color options.

One more thing I want to add, although it does provide good coverage, if you have acne-prone skin, like myself, you may still need to use a concealer and/or a little foundation to help conceal your acne.  Overall, I’d have to say, it’s worth the $39.

Smashbox’s Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 is available online at SmashboxSephora and ULTA.

Connect the Dots

As a product junkie, I’m always testing out products trying to find the next best shampoo, eyeliner, cleanser, etc.  Recently, I have been trying to combat my adult acne issues, so a few weeks ago I picked up the Bliss No ‘Zit’ Sherlock Kit from ULTA, which included:   Bliss No ‘Zit’ Sherlock Purifying Cleanser + Toner, Bliss No ‘Zit’ Sherlock Correcting Serum, Bliss No “Zit’ Sherlock Oil Control Moisturizer.

I have been using all three products religiously twice a day, everyday for the past two weeks and I haven’t noticed much of a difference.  Maybe, it might be  caused by a hormonal issue or my sweet tooth binges or maybe the product just doesn’t work for me.  What’s even sadder is that it’s my birthday week and my face is going GAGA right now.  Sure, I can cover it up with makeup, but makeup isn’t going to help with the texture of a rising pimple and it’s definitely not going to make them go away.

I can’t even tell you how much money I’ve wasted on promising acne cleansers, toners, masks and spot treatments.  So, I’ve been on a quest to find a great dermatologist to save me.  I found a dermatologist who has wonderful reviews, so I booked a consultation with her.  Only thing is, I have to wait a whole month to see her!  I guess some things are worth waiting for.

I will definitely keep you posted on how things go.  In the meantime, if you know of any great products that help fight acne, please let a doll know!

Review :: Ojon’s Best of Damage Reserve Kit

If I ever had a hair profile status, it would read the following:

“I’m a fiery redhead, living life on the wild side, who prefers to have a little fun with being a blonde, yet also finds time to relax every 3-4 months.”

Yes, I know, it’s a dangerous combination, the coloring and relaxing, but I’m a gambler.  Recently I’ve experienced some breakage, nothing too major, but still, I wanted to address the issue.  I visited my local ULTA and picked up Ojon’s Best of Damage Reserve Kit.  Now, I’ve never used Ojon products before, but I’ve heard plenty about the brand.  Recently, GAWJUS songstress, Melanie Fiona mentioned in an interview with Fashion Bomb TV that she uses Ojon products to nourish her lovely locks.  I thought I’d give it a try and for only $39 for the complete kit including: Damage Reverse Restorative Shampoo (8.5 oz), Damage Reverse Restorative Conditioner (8.5 oz) and the Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment (1.7 oz) it was a sweet bargain.

For those who aren’t familiar with the brand, here’s a little background info:  It’s a natural and organic line of naturally derived ingredients from the tropical rain forest in Central America.  Ojon’s secret to beautiful hair, is a rich palm nut oil extracted from the tropical tree. This unique tree grows only in the rain forest of the Mosquitia region of Central America. Ojon instantly hydrates and improves the condition of damaged, color-treated or processed hair without weighing it down. Fortifying, rebuilding and nourishing, it leaves hair extraordinarily shiny, silky and manageable. Ideal for dry, dull, damaged, natural or chemically-treated hair.

Formulated WITHOUT:
Parabens
Synthetic Fragrance
Synthetic Dye
Formaldehyde Donor
Phthalates
Triclosan
DEA,
PABA
Paraffin
Petrolatum/Mineral oil

According to the kit, the treatments which are fortified with pure Ojon oil, are suppose to instantly mend and strengthen my hair against breakage. So, as the kit instructed, I applied the Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment to my scalp, massage it in and combed it through and let sit for 20 minutes. Next, I shampooed with the Damage Reverse Restorative Shampoo and followed up with the Damage Reverse Restorative Conditioner.

So here are the results…

I must admit that after I shampooed my hair, it didn’t feel as silky as it does when I use Shea Moisture’s Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo, but it felt very soft and pumped up the volume in my hair and added a lot of body to it.  When I walk, my hair just flows and bounces and I LOVE that!

Two thumbs up!

Ojon products are available at Sephora, ULTA and at Ojon.com.

Prevent Makeup Meltdown with Urban Decay’s Setting Spray

Every women has been dying for that secret potion that helps their makeup last all day (at least 8 hours or more).  Caking on a little extra makeup or taking many trips to the ladies room for reapplication and blotting seems to be the only alternative…well, until now.

Urban Decay Cosmetics has launched three hypoallergenic setting sprays for different skin types, which helps your face say on for 16 hours and only for $29.

All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Spray is perfect for the party girls and ladies always on the go.  All Nighter has temperature control technology which keeps your makeup from melting down when it’s warm and humid, or dehydrating when its cold and windy.

De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray is great for those like me, who have oily skin.  De-Slick uses innovative oil control that both absorbs excess sebum and controls surface shine. The problem-solving formula mists on, feels weightless, and sets makeup so it lasts ALL DAY. Its light dispersing particles deflect shine and deliver a matte look for up to 16 hours.
I’m trying out De-Slick — I can’t tell you how many times I have to blot my face in a day, so I’m hoping it does exactly what it claims. So far so good though. I’ll keep you all posted and will review it next week.  You can purchase any of the sprays at Sephora, ULTA, Macy’s and Urban Decay.

Left the Drama and Picked Up My Stilettos

I ran out of my favorite mascara, Lancôme’s Hypnôse Drama and unfortunately the local cosmetic store doesn’t carry Lancôme products, so I was forced to try something new.  I informed the sell’s associate that I wanted a mascara that would volumize and lengthen my lashes, so she recommended Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara.
I was a bit skeptical…what can I say, I’m a loyal person, but after trying it, I love it!  I so adore long, flirty lashes and that’s exactly the look I achieved using the mascara.  This mascara actually lengthens my lashes more than Lancôme’s Hypnôse Drama.  The only downside is that they aren’t as thick as they were when using Hypnôse Drama

The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs.
    • The Grip & Extend brush grasps each lash and coats from every angle
    • Elastic formula stretches lashes for provocative length
    • Pro-Vitamin B-5 formula conditions and smoothes for black-patent shine
    • Contact lens safe and Ophthalmologist tested

    For Best Results

Sweep Grip and Extend Brush upwards from root to tip to grasp each lash and coat from every angle to achieve extreme length and shine. Continue building lashes until you reach your desired look. Do not let dry between coats. Repeat for lower lash line.

You can find Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara at your nearest ULTA, Target, and Walgreens.

    I Don’t Love Dem Holes

Gosh I’m getting old!!!!  I know you’re probably telling me to shut up through your computer, but my skin is drastically changing as I mature…I know, I can’t stop talking about it, but my pores are humongous!!! A few years ago you would barely notice them, now they’re just there on my face chilling…damn oily skin!
If you suffer from large pores like me, please don’t believe the hype that you can permantly shrink large pores…sorry dolls that’s just a myth, but there are still other methods you can use to reduce the appearance of large pores.
Using a cleanser containing containing retinol or vitamin C will help the skin increase collagen and elastin production while simultaneously loosening dirt and oil from the pores.  I’m currently using Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More Cleanser which has been working pretty good so far.

Also, a great product to use when you’re removing make-up and don’t feel like going through your regular routine is Korres Pomegrante Cleansing & Make Up Removing Wipes.  The wipes remove dirt, makeup and oil from your face and eyes.  It eliminates impurities, TIGHTEN PORES, and offers antioxidant protection.

Exfoliation is also key to minimizing the appearance of large pores.  I recommend getting a face brush, not only does it help cleanse your face, but it exfoliates dead skin.  Something like the Clarasonic Skincare Brush would be perfect, but if you can’t afford the $250 price tag, just get a $5 face brush from Ulta or Sephora.
    Make-Up Tips for Large Pores
Start with a pre-foundation skin primer, which will help even out your skin tone and keep foundation from soaking into your pores. Great primer would be Smashbox or even the Monistat Skin Chaffing Cream which is much cheaper.
Use a cream or cream-to-powder foundation, which is more likely to conceal large pores than liquid foundation.
Finally, dust your face with a loose translucent powder. Large pores will be less visible, and your skin tone will appear more even.

Fashion Rules! Party & My Intro to Laura Mercier

Yesterday evening I attended THE FASHION RULES! Party at Neiman Marcus in Mazza Gallerie.  This was a special event that featured live tap performances, art exhibits and acutions, a Manolo Blahnik Spring Trunk Show, and of course my favorite, MAKEOVERS!
I arrived early, so most of the festivities had yet to start, so I decided to take a visit the cosmetic counters, and see what’s new.  Not sure if that was a good or bad move, because I ended up spending most of my time and money there.

The beauty consultants were out to make their sales that night and the wonderful ladies at the Laura Mercier counter got me!  I always hear how wonderful Laura Mercier’s products are so I knew I had to give it try.

I was like a kid in the candy store and I was overwhelmed, so when the sales lady mentioned that their Tinted Moisturizer was their top selling product, I knew where to begin.  Now I’ve never worn tinted moisturizer so but I’ve heard that it’s perfect for a natural and minimal look, so I wanted to give it a try. What’s even better is its moisturizing formula will hydrate, soften, and reveal a very healthy looking glow to the skin.  It also has SPF 20 which protects from the sun.
I decided to wear the tinted moisturizer today and I love it so far.  Its very light, does a great job covering my blemishes, but yet sheer enough to show off my freckles.

I also purchased their Spiced Cider Blush, which adds a warm bronze to my cheeks.
Lastly I got their Secret Brightener which is a color-correcting highlighter that brightens dark circles, reduces shadow and minimizes discolorations.  It’s suppose to give you the under eye/upper cheek glow that Meagan Good and Kim Dash are famous for.
