Product Review Video :: Bobbi Brown’s Buffing Grains for Face

Flaky, dry skin…welcome to Winter! The frigid temperature, harsh winds, with little moisture, can do damage to the skin.  As you may have read in some of my previous posts, exfoliating plays a huge factor in fighting the winter skin blues.

I started using Bobbi Brown’s Buffing Grains for Face a few weeks away, twice a week.  Buffing grains is formulated with Japanese Adzuki Bean Powder, which helps remove dry patches and encourages skin cell turnover.  It’s also a 2-in-1, you can combine it with your cleanser or apply it with water.  It comes in a .99 oz/28 g. glass bottle with a pour top and priced at $42.

Color Me Bad :: What A Bad Little Girl I Am

After the long and cold winter season, it’s finally starting to feel like Spring…thank goodness! And whenever I think spring I always think about i-D’s “Pretty Young Thing” issue with super models , Chanel, Sessilee, Jourdan and Arlenis on the cover.  The colorful and vibrant 80′s style makeup on their beautiful faces, gets me amped up to pull out the bold colors and take a trip on the wild side.
I’m always inspired by those who push the envelope like the lovely ladies below.
Of course, if you’re more of a secret bad girl, you probably wouldn’t rock any of these looks to school or work, but you can always mix it up and tone it down for the appropriate setting.

Here’s a more subtle colorful spring look I tried. Yellow eyeshadow on the lid, brown in the crease; green on the lower lash line; bright pink on the cheeks and lips
Here are some colorful products to add to your palette for the Spring

Ready to be bad and bold ? Send me your pics and we’ll post them on our Facebook Page

NEW Layout Makeover

It’s a new year, so I felt it was time for a much needed makeover. I know this layout is not as glamorous as the the previous one, but this year,  I was going for a simple look that didn’t overpower the content. I’m still tweaking a few things here and there, so please, bear with me.

Let me know what you think.  Should anything be added/changed?

Trying Out Nicole Richie’s Oscars Look

As you all know the 82nd Academy Awards took place on Sunday in LA. I had a couple of favorites that evening, but my favorite look, by far was Nicole Richie

Her dramatic cat eye was very bold, yet glamorous and complimented her chic bohemian look.  I wanted to try out the same look so here’s what I did:
I applied Maybelline’s Cool Effect Cooling Shadow/Liner in Cold as Ice on my eye lid all the way up to my brow bone.
I then dusted white eyeshadow on top.
I applied a dark gray shadow in my crease and brought it out to the bridge of my nose and near the outer corner of my lid and swung it out.
I used black creme shadow to line my top lash line.  I applied it thick midpoint and swung it out on the outer corner to create the cat eye.
I finished it by applying black liner to my lower lash line.
Here’s what I got:

My complexion is darker than Nicole’s, so the white shadow is a little bolder and pops out more and therefore created a more dramatic and funky look.  Had fun testing this look out.

NYFW Bound

Hey Lovelies!! I’m headed to New York for Fashion Week. Pics and details will be posted on Monday. Have a lovely weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

No, No, No, Don’t Funk with my Brows

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s when someone screws up my eyebrows. As I have stated plenty of times before, your eyebrows are the most important feature on your face. They are the frame of your canvas aka your face. So if your brows are off, then so is the rest of your canvas.

Before I knew any better, I would go to anyone to wax my brows (which were mostly the local nail salon). I didn’t realize the art and skill of waxing, that is until I visited a brow expert. I needed my brows waxed badly, so instead of waiting until I got home, I decided to get them done in the city right after work. Unlike the nail salons, the place required an appointment, thought it was stupid at the time, but made the appointment anyway. Once I got there, they introduced me to the brow expert. She asked me how I wanted my brows and showed me different pictures to give me examples. After I made my selection, she waxed and plucked away. She placed a wet cloth over my brows to reduce the redness and a few minutes colored them in. I was really impressed. There weren’t too thin, weren’t too thick, weren’t too arched, weren’t too round, and they actually were evened out. The fee was $15, $7 more then what I would pay regularly, but it was worth every penny.

Even since then, I vowed never to return to the nail salons for a brow fix. Last week though I made an exception. I was in a rush, and didn’t have time to run to my expert, so I went to a nail salon that was close by. I explained to the lady that I didn’t want my brows too thin, I just wanted a “clean up”. She said ok and went waxing and plucking away. After she was done, she gave me the mirror to look over my brows. I made a quick glance, tipped her and left out. It wasn’t until I got home later that day and realized how horrid my brows where. They were completely uneven. One was long and arched and the other was short and rounded. I was completely enraged. I mean, covering up a blemish or pimple is easy but fixing mismatched brows is an extremely difficult task…nothing but time, can fix that. Now I have this hard look, with the super thin mismatched brows.

So let my nightmare be a lesson, go to an expert!!! Anybody can wax eyebrows, but do they actually do a good job? Sure, paying $8 is a great bargain, but is it worth having crazy brows?

2009 Thanks :: Happy New Year!

2009 has been a great year for VanityRich.com. Since our launching in late April of this year, I have had the wonderful opportunity of not only spreading the love and knowledge of beauty, but also connecting and networking with a lot of beautiful people, locally, nationally and internationally.

Although it may look easy, running a blog takes a lot of persistence and hard work. From researching, editing, marketing, networking and posting, VanityRich.com is a huge commitment that I have been completely dedicated to.

I am forever grateful to have my glam squad of family and friends who have been extremely supportive since the beginning stages.

Thanks to my muse, Foxy Roxy, Erica of SweetsandFonts.com, Wilfred David of Wilcreative Photography and Production and to all the lovely people, who followed, subscribed, voted and commented. You all have made this an amazing year for me.

I am looking forward to the wonderful opportunities that 2010 will bring and I hope to continue to have your support.

I hope you all have a glamorous New Year’s Eve.

Stay beautiful and Happy New Year!
